Topanga’s Advanced Plasma Light™ Engine combines solid-state technology with an electrode free quartzbulbtoproducegeneral lighting sources with excellent color quality, high brightness and long durability. This is integrated to a digitally controlled engine to harness and change the economy of light. It offers an energy-efficient, maintenance-freealternative to vacuum tube sources and LED’s.
These patented engines are comprised of a highly efficient power amplifier, a digital interface to maximize control and management, an electrode-free quartz bulb operating as a near point-source of intense light that provides tremendous design flexibility. It has been designed as a light engine; the light is easily adaptable to a broad range of light fixture and luminaire manufacturers and sizes. Topanga’s light intensity control electronics are available as an option.
The APL engine delivers a high intensity homogenous spot with a luminous flux efficacy of 130 lm/W, color temperatures (CCT) from 2,000 to 10,000 K and color rendering indexes (CRI) from 70 to 95. As result the new engine is an alternative to the 100 to 400 Watt HID illuminators because it reduces total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) in these applications through reduced energy costs and lower operating maintenance. In contrast to HID bulbs, the color temperature of the APL engine does not change as the lamp ages, and last at least twice as long, resulting in a consistent visual experience. In addition to the light engine, Topanga also offers a complete suite of self-tuning efficiency managers, dimming, drive and interface electronics. SkyCool is a new roof
coating that almost defies the
conventional laws of physics.
SkyCool provides a profound
cooling effect that can significantly reduce the
running costs of mechanical
air-conditioning.
SkyCool is a water-based,
non-toxic, acrylic polymer matrix
that eliminates the solar heat entering through roofs. The coating
eliminates heat gains
through roofs due to an
unusual combination of two
properties. The coating has both high
solar reflectance (> 90%), and high thermal emittance (> 94%). The high solar
reflectance means that only a
small fraction of incoming solar
energy is converted to heat by the
roof, the rest being reflected. High high
thermal emittance results in a
lot of heat being lost by radiation
from the roof.
This unique combination of
properties has, until now, proved
elusive because coatings
with high thermal emittance are
usually black or dark colored.
SkyCool, however, has a split
personality. Unusually, it is ‘white’ at solar wavelengths
(low solar absorbance) and
‘black’ at thermal wavelengths
(high radiative capacity).
The coating acts as a ‘passive
heat pump’, cooling the roof
and taking the building’s interior to
below ambient temperature – just
by being there. This radiative
cooling occurs both day and night, provided the sky is
clear.
